Gopło Millennium Landscape Park

  • Creation date: 2009
  • Area: 3074.59 ha
  • Objectives: preservation of bird breeding sites, especially the populations of water and marsh birds; preservation of habitats used by migratory and wintering birds; preservation of peat bogs and other wet and marshy environments as well as the naturally shaped postglacial landscape
  • Physical and geographic location: Gniezno Lakeland, Kujawskie Lakeland
  • Administrative location: Konin County, Skulsk commune

Location and landscape
The Nadgoplański Millennium Park is located in eastern part of Greater Poland, and is the easternmost landscape park in the voivodeship. Within the Gniezno Lakeland, where the western part of the park is situated, there is a series of lakes: Skulskie, Skulska Wieś and Czartowo, while the Kujawskie Lakeland includes the vicinity of the south-eastern region of Lake Gopło and a fragment of the Warta-Gopło canal.

The most important role in the landscape of said area is played by the Gopło lake, the largest water reservoir on the border of Wielkopolska and Kujawy. Within the park, there is the southern part of Gopło, which covers 8% of the lake's surface.

A relatively large area in the park, as for an area dominated by agriculture for centuries, is covered by forests - located in the area of Mniszek and Łuszczewo. Along the developed shoreline of water reservoirs and around the islands, stripes of extensive reeds were formed. In numerous gutters, as well as in in-field depressions of the terrain, wetlands, often of the nature of low peat bogs, have been preserved. Agricultural use has dominated the rest of the area for hundreds of years.

The largest area of dense development in the park is Skulsk - the seat of the municipal authorities. Scattered farm buildings and relatively numerous recreational facilities can be found in the nearby villages.

Warta River Landscape Park

  • Creation date: 1995
  • Area: 13,428 ha
  • Objective: preservation of the ice-marginal landscape of the middle Warta valley with a variety of natural habitats (especially water and meadow), creating favorable living conditions for wetland birds; securing the cultural values related to the settlement on dune clumps and on the edge of the ice-marginal valley, including the centers of ecclesiastical and secular authorities in Ląd, Ciążeń and Pyzdry
  • Physical and geographic location: Konin Valley, Rychwał Plain
  • Administrative location: Konin County, Rzgów commune; Słupecki County, communes: Lądek and Zagórów; Września County, Pyzdry commune

Location and landscape
Nadwarciański Landscape Park covers an approximately 30-kilometer section of the Warta valley in its middle course, from the A2 motorway in the east, to the mouth of the Prosna River, within the mesoregion known as the Konińska Valley.

In the past, the Warta valley was covered with riparian forests. The present-day landscape is the result of the valley's traditional, pastoral and meadow use, dependent on the changing rhythm of the river's flows, which, with regular floods, created the periodic backwaters. The free grazing of several thousand flocks of geese, conducive to the maintenance of open areas, was particularly characteristic of these sites. Today, the surface of the flat bottom of the Warta valley is occupied by a variety of wet meadows, rushes, pastures, arable lands and trees, between which there are numerous oxbow lakes, streaks and dunes. A growing area is taken up by arable fields.

The few scattered buildings are usually situated on raised dune clumps, and all larger towns were established along the edge of the ice-marginal valley, outside the lagoon zone. The most obvious examples of human influence on the landscape are undoubtedly the motorway that crosses the valley and the flood embankments stretching for kilometers.

Powidz Landscape Park

  • Creation date: 1998
  • Area: 24 887.21 ha
  • Objective: preservation of the young-glacial landscape with a large variety of forms, the main element of which is a group of a dozen glacial lakes, mostly gutter lakes (including the largest lakes in the region: Powidz Lake and Niedzięgiel Lake) with communities of underwater stoneworts meadows, numerous species of fish and favorable conditions for the lives of birds; protection of rare wetland plants.
  • Physical and geographic location: Gniezno Lakeland, Września Plain
  • Administrative location: Gniezno County, Witkowo commune; Konin County, communes: Kleczew and Wilczyn; Słupca County, communes: Orchowo, Ostrowite, Powidz and Słupca

Location and landscape
Powidzki Landscape Park is located in the north-eastern Greater Poland. The greater part of the protected area is located within the Gniezno Lakeland mesoregion, while the parts in the west and south-west are a part of the Września Plain. The relief has a young glacial character and includes many different forms: glacial gutters, frontal and bottom moraines and outwash plains.

The most important element determining the nature of the park's landscape is a complex of deep, large glacial lakes. Some of them are characterized by a varied, picturesque coastline and some of them have islands. Among the local lakes, the largest (Powidz Lake, Niedzięgiel Lake) and deepest (Powidz Lake, Budzisław Lake) in the region deserve attention. There are also numerous small reservoirs, wet depressions and ponds surrounded by wetland vegetation, which provide a significant diversification to the agricultural landscape.

There are no large urban or industrial centers within the boundaries of the park. Several large recreational complexes have been established near the most popular bathing areas. Along many lakes a number of recreational plots with summer houses have been separated, which adversely affects the landscape and makes access to the shoreline difficult. The landscape is dominated by agricultural land (over 45% of the area). Significant areas (about 30% of the park's area) are also forest areas.
