Welcome to Konin County
Konin County - the homeland of over 130,000 hard-working inhabitants of Wielkopolska is located on the eastern outskirts of Wielkopolska Voivodeship. It includes 14 communes that enclose the capital of the sub-region – the city of Konin, inhabited by 74 thousand people.
It is a very unusual county for Wielkopolska. Densely populated, in scattered settlements. Nature has endowed its territory with resources that make up a rather antagonistic mix: poor, infertile soils, lignite deposits, and numerous natural water reservoirs. The economy of the county and the entire Konin subregion is currently based on the fuel and energy sector, as a result of which our region is perceived through the prism of opencast mine workings and post-mining heaps. However, the evolution of this region is becoming more and more noticeable.
The socio-economic processes taking place in the country in recent years, including the pre-accession period and the beginning of Poland's membership in the European Union, have made our Little Homeland and its inhabitants begin to look for an alternative model of microregion development. The Konin county is making an effort to launch processes based on the strengths that had been previously hidden in the shadow of the fuel and energy complex.
